early morning blog - good mood

I'm in a good mood this morning. So while I would normally mention why in my FusionAce blog, I may as well say why here: traffic was light. Sounds like nothing right? It's the promise of a whole week that gets me going today. The kids and single parents are home this week for March Break - and the professional types like myself have the roads to ourselves every morning until Friday. Yes!

I'm also going to mention that clearly, reading other people's blogs is a bad influence on me (you know who you are)! I think I spend about $200 on-line this weekend. Put in another big order over at YesAsia.com. There was a boxed set of classic Jackie Chan movies I wanted but never actually ordered (not that I couldn't afford it) but still. And there was some stuff over at Amazon.ca I wanted too. One book was backordered so we'll see how long it takes to ship.
I've had some weird experiences on-line before. Over at YesAsia, I was previously assured all my stuff was in-stock and was awaiting shipment only to later be told that they were mistaken and that it'd take an extra week to get new inventory from their Asian warehouse. That one was annoying.

And yeah, the clean-up went well last night at the appartment so I'm thinking within the week I'll be able to call the super to have them look at that bathroom plumbing I've been having trouble with.

huh - what was I thinking?

So a new goody was at the post office waiting for me today:

Not sure when I bought this - the last couple of months since Christmas were a blur. I won this off eBay and just now I Googled the same item out of curiosity and it turns out I over-bid. Oh well - such is the way of eBay. Wish I had a decent digicam to snap my own pic once I figure out how to liberate Rei from her cardboard and plastic prison. (This pic is actually "borrowed" from the seller's own web site where they're charging what the original minimum bid was. I feel no guilt at "borrowing" it).

Anyway, it's just funny that at the time, my high bid just seemed "reasonable." And now, not so much. In fact, I can't even really remember what drove me to bid at all. There's something oddly ...mechanical... about this figure. Rather disturbing in an "I, Robot" sense. Not quite suited to the whole business of being a cute teenaged anime heroine.

reprieve... from everything.

Putting aside all that was going on last night with mum, I went for a skate on the canal today with some friends after work (what a stress reliever!). It was great - we did the full 7.-something K - both ways. Even if we wanted to go further, we couldn't ...not anywhere else in the world, in fact (this being the famous Rideau Canal - world's longest skating surface and all).

There was some miscommunication later on - one of the girls was expecting to call home for a ride but her significant other apparently had gone cross-country skiing for the evening. I ended up driving her home. Who knew it'd be out in the backwoods some 20 minutes out of town. In fact, she played the navigator and talked me through all the snowy backroads and hills that made my ears pop... the only thing missing was a Subaru Impreza WRC... and maybe some sponsor logos on my car.

Now it's 9:30pm ...and I still haven't had supper. Truth be told, I'm not really hungry anymore. Natch - I'll be starving in about 30 minutes. I'm sure mum won't be thrilled to hear I haven't eaten when I call home later tonight. Hmm... bad thing.

So naive? Or just blissfully innocent?

Shrek 2 joins a growing list of films blasted by far right conservative groups:
http://jam.canoe.ca/Movies/2005/02/21/937915-cp.html

I like to think of myself as being fairly well-informed (and at the very least, well-educated) so I'm not going to embarrass myself by saying I'm ignorant to the fact that this sort of backward attitude still exists in the world. But I will admit I feel it's rather appalling, if not surprising.

I wasn't ignorant to the sexually-slanted humour in Shrek 2. And I agree with some parents that at a certain age, kids probably shouldn't be watching this film (before which, they won't get the sexual references anyway, and after which, they're probably old enough make their own decision on what's funny or not).

Now is it just me? Was I the only one who just didn't catch this?
I was under the impression that the bartender was a female with a hormone imbalance... say, a little too much testosterone. Kinda like that cashier at my local grocery store, who's a little heavy on the estrogen... Has little to do with crossdressing or being gay, I think.

"Now Bobby, do you watch gladiator movies?"

the gadgets now (the ants in my pants)

On frequent chit-chatting occassions with Unattainable Dream Girl I've mentioned a certain game we call "DDR." If you've never heard of it, a spoofy interpretation of this arcade game was featured in an episode of Malcom in the Middle a while ago. The player stands on a 3x3 square pressure pad. A series of direction arrows crawls up the screen and the player must step on the appropriate squares on the grid... all to the tune of music - indeed, not unlike a dance.

And so naturally, being an at-home player (yes, I'm shy to play in an actual arcade, but also cheap since I don't want to spend the quarters anymore), I frequently find myself absent-mindedly doing the actual step routines with my feet while sitting at my desk... prompting funny comments from Unattainable Dream Girl the other day.

Speaking of whom, does anybody know when the line is crossed from playing video games to be adultorous? Lucky for me, she's not married... yet. *ahem* ^o^; *ahem*

Now where was I anyway? Oh right - home game. Picked up the newest edition on PS2 this weekend. This one supports the "Eye Toy" - a USB web-cam-like thingy so you now get to wave your arms around like a maniac to hit virtual targets while still hopping around. My brother commented last night: "it's only a matter of time. The PS2 console has 2 USB ports on it, why not bring out an all-in-one game using the Dance Dance Revolution pad, the Eye Toy camera, and the Karaoke Revolution headset so you have to do a complete song and dance routine?"

Groovy...

I take back what I was saying about Valentine's...

Just read this tonight and thought to share it. Best comic sequence ever...

I was standing in front of one of these at Best Buy last night and damn it, I was so close to actually deciding to get one on the spot. Luckily common sense prevailed. Maybe I'll buy this some time in the future when I have my taxes filed and taken care of.

Went home to tool around with a DiVx I'd previously downloaded. It was one of the big action flicks out of Hong Kong for 2004 starring Ekin Cheng and Charlene Choi called "Leave Me Alone." I made a conversion and burned it to a DVD-RW. It was worth it considering how much I hate watching stuff on my PC. Why RW? Well, honestly, I have no intention of keeping this movie. I enjoyed it so much I think I'll throw it onto my next order at http://www.yesasia.com. Besides - I can't live without DTS surround sound when I'm watching movies anymore. I've spoiled myself for that.

All about the finances... Ugh.

Speaking of necessary fun...

Here's something that arrived in the mail today...

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

...eBayed it for only twenty bucks... sweet! And the seller even refunded me a bunch of money for the shipping (I guess they overcharged me or something), but still, that's highly unusual for a seller to do. Surprisingly honest fellow.

12 inches of molded plasticy goodness. Ah.

Hmm... this further reminds me - another package is still in transit. Probably held up at the border. Oh well. :/

Big Whoop - the Day After

It is noon on February 15 of 2005 and I am thinking of a Green Day song...
it goes something like:

"I walk this lonely road,
The only one that I have ever known.
Don't know where it goes.
But it's home to me and I walk alone."

FusionAce needed a kick in the pants. So We've decided to start a blog here. In case you still haven't figured it out - Legion is made up of 1 person...
